located in rio's south-west zone, and part of rio de janeiro's adventure beaches, praia do perigoso (beach of the dangerous) is the first actual sandy beach following the small rocky beach praia dos búzios (beach of the sea shells) - also known as praia pequena (small beach) or perigosinho (a bit dangerous), this beach is at the bottom of the pedra da tartaruga, a local hiking and rock-climbing spot.

legend has it this beach is named this way because supposedly it was the last part of the route followed by dangerous criminals who managed to escape the prison that once existed on ilha grande - some locals also say a dangerous criminal used to hide and live on this beach, although no name was ever given to this person.
