although not always suitable for swimming, botafogo beach is perhaps the most photographed beach in rio de janeiro, more so even of ipanema and copacabana beach.

in fact, this is the beach that appears at the base of the sugar loaf, in all of the pictures taken from the christ statue, on the corcovado.

from the shores of this beach, it is possible to photograph the sugar loaf as a back drop to many fishing and sail boats docked in the bay, creating both characteristic and unique images of rio.                                         

at sunset, the rays hit morro da urca and sugarloaf directly, turning the rocky hills into a golden orange that is a spectacle in itself.
