directly opposite botafogo beach are praia da urca and the morro da urca, the stop-over hill visited on the way up to the sugar loaf. sugarloaf mountain is one of rio de janeiro's main tourist attractions and it looms large on the skyline over looking rio de janeiro's harbor. the mountain is incredible when viewed from botafogo beach, as there is nothing to interrupt the line of sight. travelers are able to gaze across the glistening waters of guanabara bay before looking up at the granite colossus in all its glory.
