both lodging alternatives are beach front, and extremely peaceful. praia da macumba can get quite empty and deserted at night, so we do not recommend it after hours to international visitors and/or people without own transportation. there are no public buses going to praia da macumba, thus the best option would be getting to praia do recreio and walking from there (about 30 minute walk) or taking a taxi for about 100 reals from zona sul.
