somewhat crowded during the week-ends, prainha is almost empty during week-days, especially during the colder months (may to august). 

due to the consistently strong waves, this beach is considered by many the best surfing beach in rio de janeiro, and it is often home to national and international surf competitions.

there are two kiosks that serve natural fruit juices, sandwiches, and light meals targeted at the many surfers who go here.
