the judges evaluate the floats on visual illustration of the school's theme of the year, originality and artistic quality.  

most of the floats are quite fantastical and majestic looking, some of them up to thirty feet high, and often with moving parts.

however, if they have difficulty passing certain tricky areas at the start or end of the avenue due to their size points may be lost in the competition.
