at a glance

as years went by, even more blocos afro formed in rio de janeiro and its suburbs, such as grupo afro agbara dudu, founded in april 1982 in the madureira neighborhood.

as the polularity of these cultural organizations grew, this group was founded by legends of bloco afro, such as zezé guimarães, hélio de assis, mestre corvo, vera agbara, carlinhos maracanã, tia tereza, tio rezende, and mãe hilda, the unforgettable reginaldo da portela and jetinha and vovô of ilê aiyê, among others.

just like the blocos from alvado, agbara dudu offered plenty of activities beyond carnival including seminars, workshops, and different type of community work always geared towards the conservation of african culture.     arrow-back     arrow-forward
