at a glance

the word piranha technically refers to the carnivore fish by the same name - but in rio's typical humor 'piranha' also refers to women who are exploiters or 'gold-diggers'.

during carnaval time people take over the streets, wearing costumes, playing with fantasies, and with stereotypes.

blocos embrace imagination and in that sense, blocos das piranhas embrace cross-dressing, mostly through men dressing up as women.

formed mainly by straight man, blocos das piranhas are street parades formed of men wearing their moms or girlfriend's clothes.

everyone can join the bloco and there is no fee to be part of it.    arrow-back     arrow-forward
