outside of carnival season, this special stadium is used as a venue for large concerts, and has hosted major artists such as eric clapton, coldplay, whitney houston, robbie williams, black eyed peas, pearl jam, britney spears, black sabbath, aerosmith, and justin bieber.  

during the days of the parades, the sambódromo is the safest area in rio, due to the safety measures in place to protect all people and the large number of brazilian and international celebrities and politicians attending the event.
