the sambódromo is located in a part of town called berço do samba (cradle of samba) - starts along avenida presidente vargas near praça onze and ends at the praça da apoteose (square of the apotheosis), near rua frei caneca.

in apoteose square, facing the avenue where the parade takes place, there is a huge arch-like structure that symbolizes the sambódromo - this is where the parades come to an end.

this arch is easily recognizable, and it is a precious landmark useful to get an orientation when walking in the area near or around the sambódromo.    

on the nights of the parades, the best way to get to the sambódromo is via subway - it is fast, reliable, and gets crowded with people in costumes going to take part in the parade, so great fun to watch.
