before entering the sambódromo to parade, all schools go through their final preparations and touch-ups along two sides of avenida presidente vargas.

this area is call concentração (concentration), and this is where floats are assembled in their final shape, and participants wear their costumes, put make-up on, and get in formation.

portions of the concentração are open to the public, and can provide a great opportunity to peek in the final moments of carnival back-stage. 

further, it is possible to get a close look at the giant floats as they get pushed towards the entrance of the sambódromo, and take unique pictures.
