it became a four times champion in the a group of the samba bloc championship during the 1980s and early 1990s.

in the 1990s the blocos would become less popular, and a group within the flor da mina do andaraí came to the conclusion that they had the instruments and experience needed convert the bloco into a samba school, thus bringing back the fame the neighborhood had with the old floresta.

the decision was taken and the restructured congregation was made official in 1992, partaking in the official parades for the first time in the very next year.
