this sense of support has encouraged the united youth of santa marta to composed dance numbers with a message such as 'make love, not war', 'brazil, instead of all poverty… education is the solution', and 'a toast to the bicentennial of the botafogo neighborhood'.

not all of these dance numbers have won samba school competitions for the youth of santa marta, but every year the school performs in carnival delivering a strong statement about the spirit of their community.
