the neighborhood becomes their world, almost like a part of their family and identity, and for that reason they know each bar, restaurant, shop, cinema and park just as well as they know their cousin or an old friend - in conversation with a person from another neighborhood they are prone to confidently highlight qualities of their own neighborhood.

this is in no way antagonistic, but an accepted part of carioca discourse - in fact, the listener will often respond with a superior quality in their own neighborhood, and the conversation will flow on jovially.
