The tourist visa - VITUR, is by far the most common visa issued by the Brazilian Government.

It is issued to all visitors who come to sightsee, visit relatives and friends, attend an academic or scientific seminar or conference and even to participate in an athletic or artistic event or competition.

The later two are based on visitors receiving no compensation or charging fees for services, except for reimbursement of expenses per diem and being able to produce an invitation letter from the sponsoring organization in Brazil.
