The association fondly referred to as ALMA, Associação Lar Missionário de Amor, located on Ilha do Governador, was founded in 1999 by Ilma Santos de Souza, and provides shelter, food and care to homeless children - The association hosts victimised youths and children of all forms, working to return them to their families or to prepare them for adoption.

They provide medical, dental and pharmaceutical care; food, hygiene and clothing; culture, sport and leisure activities; additional educational activities; and aid inclusion into public schools - ALMA can be contacted via email here or on the organization's website on this link.
