Founded in 1993, Viva Rio is an organization committed to research and fieldwork in the formulation of public policies which will promote peace and social inclusion.

It was first formed by a group of representatives from across sectors of society who were deeply concerned by the high levels of violence in the city - They have since developed a number of activities and projects which have directly shaped public policies.
