The organization held favela 'integration' into the wider cityscape as one of its core aims, marking a significant departure from government policy and practice of isolation and eradication. By significantly improving the quality of life of residents these organizations consecrated the relevance of religious institutions in communities.

Nowadays, churches work extensively with local NGOs, families and community leaders to offer assistance to families in need, and divert people away from criminal activity. Church attendance and faith brings residents of the favelas, amongst other things, a sense of belonging and purpose, and a clear set of values to guide conduct and provide meaning to existence.
