at a glance

in the minds of many, favelas are intrinsically linked to organized crime and gang wars. this in turn leads to many misconceptions and pervasive pre-justices against residents of these neighborhood. we recognize the importance of dispelling some of these myths and paint a more optimistic and indeed complete picture of live inside favela communities.

interestingly, many favela residents expressed a sense of safety in their homes, due to the close community ties, exceptional sense of solidarity and intricately regulated social systems, which are lacking from the 'asfalto'.

contrary to common views held by the general population, the overwhelming majority of favela residents is employed across a surprisingly broad spectrum of occupations and income brackets.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
