at a glance

The Instituto de Segurança Pública (ISP) (Institute of Public Security) was formed in 1999 to develop and disseminate research and analysis to support the development and implementation of public security policies and ensure social participation in the construction of these policies - It develops research, criminal analysis and projects, as well as working extensively to facilitate dialogue between the state and civil society, striving continuously to consolidate its role as a reference institution in the field of public security.

The Núcleo de Pesquisa em Justiça Criminal e Segurança Pública (NUPESP) (Center for Criminal Justice Research and Public Security) produces statistical reports which diligently analyze the biggest security issues affecting the population.

All reported criminal incidents are recorded, analysed and periodically released to the public. Other activities include the release of a monthly newsletter, monitoring of bus lines to assess for the need of extra police presence and monitoring of priority criminal activity is monitored (murder, vehicle theft and street crime).  arrow-back      arrow-forward
