specifically pertaining to pacified favelas, The Rio + Social is a multidisciplinary program coordinated by the Instituto Pereira Passos - IPP in partnership with UN-HABITAT - the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, to promote improvement in the quality of life of people who live in pacified territories.

The performance of the Rio + Social  is guided by three themes - provision of public services, economic development and training,  includeing advice and assistance in legalizing local small businesses in order to generate income and employment in the communities.  regular surveys generate a picture and an overview of each area.
