this horse shaped beach is famous among kite surfers due to the possibility of enjoying winds in all directions - and can be seen on this satellite map.

the only means of transport to the sandbank is by a navy boat, and access is allowed to residents and visitors with permission.  

for anyone to be able to stay on the island, it would be necessary to be directly invited by a member of the community that lives there.  

since 1991, marambaia island is protected by the secretaria de estado de cultura do rio de janeiro (rio de janeiro's state department of culture), so that its areas of particular historical and environmental interest can be better preserved.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
