at a glance

there are a number of islands dotted around the guanabara bay, with the two most prominent, the ilha do governador and ilha de paquetá.

just over 300 square kilometers in size, and located on the other side of rio, the sepetiba bay is not as commercially or turistically important as guanabara bay - however it is a vital area for the fishing industry in the region.

with marine catfish being the most present in sepetiba's waters, nearly one hundred species of fish were catalogued in the bay - including from the ariidae, gerreidae, sciaenidae, carangidae, and sparidae families.

one of the most charming aspects of many islands facing the baía de sepetiba are the many fishermen boats, and the small and often improvised fish markets in the area.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
