the works for uniting the eight small islands into a single large one went from 1949 to 1952, after which the creation of the university  took place.

although large and ambitious since the very beginning, the academic city remains under constant improvement.

several open spaces still exist across the embankment, offering space for the construction of new installations and departments.

also, and in spite of the drastic changes the whole region suffered, some of the ancient islands can still be identified amidst the landscape.
