it is a wild island, devoid of human activity and covered in lush mangrove and 'restinga' - it is crossed at the middle by a small strip of sand which is commonly covered by the high tide.

this island is very close to the 'campo de provas da marambaia', or 'marambaia fire range'.

occupying a region in the atlantic coast, this range is used by the brazilian marines for training and equipment testing purposes.

the range also contains the 'centro de avaliações do exército', in english 'army's evaluation center', a complementary installation which is part of the equipment testing apparatus of the brazilian army.
