just next to the chapel There is a small games table mounted in the area, where locals and workmen play cards and chat until well into the afternoon, while fishing nets hang to dry behind them, and the fresh smell of the fish market infuses the air. There exists a generational hierarchy amongst fisherman in established colonies such as this one - the older and more learned of the trade stay back in the early morning to construct intricate nets with expert nimbleness, while the younger and more agile in their fold venture out into the waters. In July 2014 the area was officially recognized as a fishing district, which politically and socially elevated the trade, symbolizing the importance of the fishing activities to the local community, and paying tribute to the fishermen's ancestors who settled there 91 years before. | arpoador | |||
