at a glance

the district of arpoador is home to two distinct beaches, quite popular with surf enthusiasts in light of the beaches frequent strong tides, and convenient accessibility - praia do diabo and praia do arpoador.

located between copacabana and  ipanema, praia do diabo (devil's beach) is 500 meters long, but only about 100 meters are accessible to the public, as most of the beach is a military area part of the forte de copacabana.

right next to pedra de arpoador (arpoador's rock), this beach is named devil's beach due to the strong waves typical on high tide -  however, this beach is in fact a very calm and peaceful corner of the zona sul.

there are clearly visible red signs posted on the beach when the water is dangerous -  these warnings should be observed, as the undertone can be strong even when the waves seem normal.        arrow-back      arrow-forward
