born in rio de janeiro, and beloved by all cariocas, pepê' started his surfing career in ipanema in the 70's, but died tragically in 1991 in japan during an hang gliding accident. 

founded by pepê himself to attend to the needs of young sportsmen, barraca do pepê's (pepê's kiosk) still exists and has become famous for serving all natural trend-setting fruit juices and sandwiches - pepê's kiosk also organizes beach soccer and volley classes. 

characterized by fine white sand, clean light-green waters, strong waves, and wide tracts between the promenade and the water, this beach has a unique and colorful cloud of kites framing the tijuca islands almost every day.
