bosque da barra, or arruda câmara park, as it sometimes called was designed and opened in 1982 to preserve some of the natural area in the rapidly urbanization of barra da tijuca, west of rio de janeiro - it is one of the most popular parks in the region, and even with the surrounding urban sprawl, it has managed to protect many endangered species as well as the original natural landscape of swamp and marshland.
