aterro do flamengo, also known as flamengo park as well as it's official name 'parque brigadeiro eduardo gomes'  is one of the most beautiful and visited parks in rio.  with 1,200,000 square meters of tropical vegetation, bicycle paths, several sport facilities, and a spectacular view of the the sugar loaf and flamengo beach this park is a must visit. the idea for the park came from lota macedo soares, who had a vision of building a park that could be enjoyed by the city's residents throughout all seasons and at any time of the day. the lights that illuminate the park at night are immitating the moonlight.
