Presented by the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, the study Um Caminho para a Glória,(A path to Glória), by Gustavo Rocha-Peixoto and Flavio Castellotti, examines the intervention carried out by the Brazilian Heritage Department (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional - iphan)at Glória Church in Rio de Janeiro, between 1940 and 1965, reveals architectural restoration concepts which were applied by a group of modernist intellectuals, and guided the institute during its first decades of existence. The vast collection of documents demonstrate that notions such as harmony, artistic integrity and purism underpinned most decisions made by the Department.
