Presented by the    Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, the study Lapa carioca, uma (re)apropriação do lugar,(Rio's Lapa, a (re)appropriation of the place), by Vanessa Jorge de Araújo, analyzes the (re)appropriation of Rio's Lapa through the (re)qualification of its landscape, as new uses and values are being (re)created by urban marketing. In methodological terms, besides the historical recovering of the place's memory, of the urban intervention plans, of the establishments' inventories and of the day and night activities in Lapa, interviews were conducted in order to measure users' perceptions and tastes. It must be noted that the analysis of the work is a product of the relationship between scientific knowledge and bits of music, chronicles, poetry and films, in the aims of reconstructing the region's affective memory and its representations throughout time.
