It was also home to the famous and widely loved President, Getúlio Vargas, as the official residence for the New State. interestingly, a local legend exists,According to which Guanabara Palace was cursed by a slave who worked on its construction. the curse condems any resident of the place to a life of suffering.

The palace is now open to visitors on the last Saturday of each month. Amongst its many displays and exhibits is the 'Pé de Moleque' paving, which was imported from Portugal in the 17th Century, Princess Isabel's then slave quarters, the vast and impressive collection of art works as well as the period furniture.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
