people who live in rio de janeiro often joke that the best thing about niterói is their view of rio - typical carioca humor, and in itself part of what makes it so enjoyable to visit this part of the world. people can rest assured that while niterói does in fact have an amazing view of its neighbor across the bay - it also has much to offer, and the citizens are so friendly that the city had been dubbed 'the city of smiles.' on top of the cities amiable atmosphere it boasts an incredibly diverse nightlife, along with it's own contemporary art museum which is part of the caminho niemeyer. though not as well known as rio de janeiro, niterói has a thriving cultural scene and fantastic beaches.
