at a glance

situated between the sea and the hills, the neighborhood was part of the plantation são jose da lagoinha da gávea, the property of the heirs of salvador correia de sá and benevides during the 18th century.  in 1932 the plantation was bought by osvaldo riso.

in the early 20th century, the commander conrado jacob neimeyer erected a small church in honor of são conrado on his large estate, the Paróquia São Conrado, which eventually gave the neighborhood its name.

the completion of the beautiful avenida niemeyer, donated to the government in 1916, was instrumental in improving connectivity and vastly improved the estrada da gávea.

the villa riso visitation center offers cultural events and various art exhibitions to the public.
