Presented by the    Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the study Quando um cemitério é patrimônio cultural  (When a cemetery is a cultural heritage site), by Renata de Souza Nogueira,  was developed with the intention of contributing to discourse about non-traditional spaces of potential value - It covers the musealization and patrimonalization of São João Batista Cemetery, in Rio de Janeiro, and its sculptures, as well as proposed improvements to the surrounding area, which aim to preserve, and make accessible, this funerary heritage.

This study identifies the design management tools necessary to preserve the cemetery, and outlines the necessity for museological interventions, which would incorporate into the conceptual framework of their design memory, identity and value, as fundamental ideas in the social restructuring of this important cultural site.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
