at a glance

just across from campo de santana, centro is home to a particularly famous sub neighborhood called saara - a shopping district with over a thousand stores, tons of restaurants, and definitely some of the best bargains in town - saara is one of the most buzzing and eclectic areas of the centre, and is beloved amongst locals and residents for its incomparable deals and great breadth of products.

One of the main streets of what is now saara was in 1716 known as Rua dos Governadors, or Governor's Street, because it was where the governors resided. Traditional festive dates and celebrations cause great movement and commotion in Saara, which flourishes with decorations as merry shoppers buzz around searching for the ideal purchases.

for easter, traditional and handmade chocolate eggs can be bought, before christmas the streets are a bustle with every color and creed of gift, and in the days and weeks leading up to carnival the district comes to life, as specially tailored shops teem with all sort of costumes, facepaints and accessories.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
