Praça Tiradentes is another Square of great repute in the city of Rio - it houses a great statue of King Pedro II, the second and last ruler of the Brazilian empire, depicted on horseback. the statue is surrouned by four bronze sculptures, representing the four largest rivers of Brazil - the Amazon River, Paraná River, São Francisco River, and the Madeira River.

One of the most magnificent and culturally entrenched buildings in the city is the Theatro Municipal, or 'Municipal Theatre' - It was first opened in 1909, in the heart of the Central Zone, Cinelândia, more formerly known as Praça Floriano.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
