Presented by the    Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the study A construção do bairro da Lapa como lugar central para a sociabilidade noturna carioca: Uma análise dos projetos de espaços públicos,(The construction of the neighborhood of Lapa as a central space for Rio's social nightlife: An analysis of the projects for public space), by Andre Felix de Souza, Hernando Cepeda Sánchez and Marcos Paulo Ferreira de Góis shows how In recent years, the Lapa neighborhood has been configured as a great attraction for nighttime leisure in the city of Rio de Janeiro.  This attractiveness is the product of a number of factors such as the geography, historical specificity, diverse activities, urban reforms and production of public spaces in the region - all of these factors contributed to the creation of a central space for Rio's social nightlife and, most of all, a symbolic reference point for the whole city - The objective of this work is to analyze how the urban projects for public spaces helped in the configuration of Lapa as the focal nightlife neighborhood -  The central idea is, therefore, to contribute to the sociological and historical understanding of the spatiality of this region.
