this glamour would eventually dissipate by the middle of the 20th century, but gave lapa a reputation that was recently revived. in 1984 the project for the cultural corridor in rio was approved, which led to creation of preservation efforts in the historical buildings existing in lapa - this initiative also created the grounds which allowed for the development of several cultural events in the neighborhood up to this day.

rich of history and tradition, lapa remains the most bohemian neighborhood of rio, and it is easily recognizable by the iconic white arches known as 'arcos da lapa' - in the last few years, lapa has become one of the most visited areas in rio by foreigners, second only to copacabana.
