The glamour that these neighborhoods once had is, today, overshadowed by stereotypes and preconceptions constructed and consolidated during the 'recent' process of urbanization (mostly since the middle of the 20th Century).

These stereotypes are supported by the negative indices which appear (poverty, high rates of non-attendance at school, unemployment, violence, precarious housing, amongst many others) - matters which prevail in the media, and appear in political discourse and, to some extent, end up being reproduced by the residents themselves, therefore consolidating stratifications between them.
