jardim sulacap is a neighborhood located in the west zone (zona oeste), one of  the four administrative zones of rio de janeiro. the neighborhood (bairro) is bordered by vila militar, campo dos afonsos and vila valqueire, tanque, taquara and realengo.

jardim sulacap is located in an area that once was an old plantation owned by the afonso family. the neighborhood's origin however can be traced back to 1951. at that time, a subdivision called jardim sulacap (garden sulacap) was developed by the cia sul américa capitalização s. a. (south america bonds cia sa).  the area was located on the estrada intendente magalhães (magalhães road) and the campo dos afonsos (afonsos field).

the jardim sulacap is a residential neighborhood composed of mostly military families stationed at nearby bases. the cemitério parque jardim da saudade (garden of yearning cemetery), the first of its kind in the county and brazil was established in 1989. it is one of the largest and modern cemeteries in latin america.
