at a glance

Fragility of funding, competition with periodicals owned by large companies, the need to garner support from people within the suburbs, the construction of a network of representatives - are examples of just some of the difficulties faced in trying to maintain a periodical during this period. If many newspapers were created as militant organs proponing the interests of a middle class who were looking to become a suburban elite, far from the interests of the populist masses, in other periodicals it is possible to identify work which was critical of the hegemonic model of society. Many journalistic initiatives defended alternative, populist projects, and were privileged political players involved in the formulation of new forms of political representation, forcibly criticizing the model built into the beginning of the republican period, marked by the exclusion of the great majority of the population from the the decision-making processes of the country. arrow-back      arrow-forward
