at a glance

freguesia jacarepaguá, is a bairro (neighborhood) that is located in the zona oeste (west zone) of rio de janeiro, and once covered the whole area between the tijuca and pedra branca ridges.

with time the changes in demography, social and economic dynamics, forced the region to be fragmented into smaller neighborhoods to better reflect the current social realities and to streamline the administrative processes.

this development lead freguesia and several other neighborhoods gained their independence from jacarepaguá during the second half of the 20th century - nowadays it is delimited by the bairros of pechincha, jacarepaguá, taquara, tanque, city of god, gardênia azul, água santa and anil.  arrow-back       arrow-forward
