at a glance

freguesia covers part of the tijuca national park, on its northern edge and in the southern area there's the national municipal park of the forest of freguesia, a small batch of woodland crisscrossed by trails - in addition, there are several smaller parks spread around the neighborhood.

the region was first settled long before such changes occured, what is now the freguesia neighborhood was once called porta d'água, named after a local river, and growing under the shadow of the tijuca ridge, it was an epicenter for the development of the whole area - in 1661 it went on to become the first parish in the region of jacarepaguá, by then it was known as 'our lady of loreto of jacarepaguá'. arrow-back      arrow-forward
