at a glance

by the early 20th century the generality of the jacarepaguá area was still an underdeveloped region, with little commerce - this changed after the middle of the century, when the area population experienced significant growth. nowadays the neighborhood has a strong economy and is occupied predominenly by relatively high income households.

the long occupation of the region is evidenced by several important historical buildings, such as the church of our lady of penna, located on the top of a small hill and is one of the most interesting locations to visit in freguesia. it shares the location with the church of our lady of loreto and a couple other historic religious sites.

beyond these buildings this areas is also known for its restaurants. some of the best known establishments are the siri restaurant, located nearby the forest of freguesia, and, more to the north, the rancho verde and the vista alegre. arrow-back      arrow-forward
