the location which would eventually be known as jardim palmares was built at the end of the 1960s, during the period of expansion of the urban sprawl of the paciência neighborhood, in the west region of rio de janeiro. it grew alongside the brazil avenue, which is still the main access venue to the urbanization. jardim palmares shares borders with the sub-neighborhoods of jardim gramado and linha de austin to the south. to the north are a few industrial complexes which are important for the economy of the wider neighborhood. the name of the sub-neighborhood comes from the fact that there are several palm trees spread around - translated to english jardim palamares means 'palm tree garden'. | freguesia jpa | |||
