at a glance

The tanque neighborhood is Located in the zona oeste (West Zone) of Rio de Janeiro, it is surrounded by the districts of praça seca and vila valqueire to the north, jardim sulacap and Taquara to the west, pechincha and freguesia jacarepaguá to the south, and quintino bocaiúva to the east.

Geographically speaking, it has the extremity of the Tijuca ridge to the east, and the most eastward hills of the Pedra Branca, or 'White Stone', ridge to the west.

In the lat nineteenth century, the area between Taquara and Jacarepaguá was used as a resting stop for horseback riders and animal-powered trams. There was at that time a large water tank, built in 1875 and referred to at that time as Largo do Tanque, where horses, donkeys and other animals belonging to travelers were taken to drink, and gather energy for the remaining journey. arrow-back      arrow-forward
