senador vasconcelos is located in the zona oeste (west zone) of rio de janeiro and is bordered by the neighborhoods of campo grande, santíssimo, and senador camará. it part of the the campo grande administrative region.

in 1914, with the construction and expansion of the railroad of brazil, a rail station was established and named after senator augusto vasconcelos. previously, the area consisted of farmland belonging to the family of capoeiras lameirao. senador vasconcelos houses just over 30,000 residents and is known to be an area of low development and urbanization.
