vila valqueire is a neighborhood located in the zona oeste (west zone), one of rio de janeiro four zones - the bairro (neighborhood) is situated near the boundary to the north and zone borders the districts of praça seca, tanque and jardim sulacap, campo dos afonsos, marechal hermes and bento ribeiro, oswaldo cruz and campinho.

the name vila valqueire goes back to an old sugarcane plantation called the valqueire after the name of its owner: antónio fernandes valqueire - the symbol of the farm was a bushel basket with the roman numeral five on it.

the property had, at one time, been the location for the engenho de fora, a lumber mill - around 1927, under the supervision of an engineer named alencar lima, a new subdivision was developed and is now the location of the bulk of urbanization in the bairro.
